Here’s five things to consider (plus helpful questions to ask) when choosing your wedding musician:
- What does their fee include? Every musician has their own pricing structure, so be sure to find out if there’s any extra charges for new song requests, bespoke arrangements, consultations, instrument / equipment hire, travel expenses, delays on the day, etc. These are already included in my fee, so you don’t have to worry about this!
- How experienced are they? Weddings are very different to other events and require a unique set of skills, so the more experience your musician has, the better! I’ve been performing for over 20 years throughout Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, and have spent over 10 years specialising in wedding music.
- Do they have insurance? Most wedding venues require musicians to have Public Liability Insurance to cover any accidental damage etc, and all professional musicians should be able to provide their PLI certificate on request. If you need a copy of this from me, just get in touch!
- Will you get to hear your music in advance? You wouldn’t buy your dress or your suit without seeing it, so why would you choose your music if you can’t hear it! For me, this is one of the most important parts of your wedding music journey, so I provide professionally recorded digital tracks of all Spotlight Songs to my couples in advance so they can listen to their music and approve it before the big day.
- How versatile is the performer and the instrument? There’s so much more to wedding music than Pachelbel’s Canon, so when you’re choosing your musician, consider the styles of music they offer and also the type of instrument they play, as not all styles and genres will suit all instruments. If you’re wondering how I compare to other musicians, why not take a few minutes to stream my wedding playlists where you’ll find 200+ digital tracks ranging from Beethoven and The Beatles to Black Sabbath and Beyoncé! It might surprise you how many styles sound good on piano!
And finally – don’t be afraid to ask your suppliers questions about their service! It’s always better to have the answers upfront so you can make an informed decision at the outset.
